I believe that the principal role of a therapist is to create a safe place for people, as individuals or couples, to find their unique paths to emotional well-being and meaningful relationships. I have always considered it an honor and a privilege when people are willing to share with me their personal challenges during counseling. And, it is very rewarding to participate in the process of individuals changing and improving their lives.
My journey as a therapist began at the Betty Ford Center. I spent 13 years at the center, gaining experience in all aspects of alcohol and other drug dependency treatment. I worked as a therapist and case manager, and coordinated the training department educating professionals that treatment works and recovery is possible!
At the Heart Institute of the Desert, I facilitated groups for patients with heart conditions who needed to make behavioral changes necessary for weight loss.
Throughout this time, I also saw clients in my private practice, addressing mood disorders, life transitions, binge eating, and relationship concerns.
After moving to San Francisco, I managed a corporate Peer Volunteer Program that offered employees in recovery the opportunity to assist other employees struggling with substance use issues. I subsequently worked as a corporate coach, helping employees navigate work relationships and improve their communication skills.
Returning to the non-profit sector, I consulted for an organization whose mission was to educate families with children transitioning through separation or divorce. I had the opportunity to assist in the design and implementation of an innovative curriculum based on emotional intelligence. Participants were taught communication and coping skills to minimize the negative impact of this life transition on the family.
My diverse education and training has always focused on the individual needs of the client. This experience is essential to serve the clients of my practice.
I Look forward to the opportunity and privilege to meet with you and assist you in improving your life experience.
Sincerely,
V'Anne
